Becoming a Christian
How Can I Join God’s Kingdom?
I stand at the door and knock;
if anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in. . . .
Revelation 3:20
Jesus Knocks
I (Jesus) stand at the door and knock. The door refers to your heart – not your physical heart, but your command center – that place inside your life that makes you say what you say, do what you do, and think what you think. The heart is where your decisions are made. If Jesus is knocking on the door of your command center, then you have an inner sense or knowing that Jesus seeks entrance to your life, an inner sense or knowing that you want Jesus to reside in your life.
Jesus Speaks
If anyone hears My voice. The voice of Jesus is not heard in a physical way, but rather, in a spiritual way. If something on the inside is telling you – some sense, or thought, or feeling – that you need Jesus Christ, then you are hearing the voice of Christ Himself. He is seeking you in this moment. You can rightly put your name in the place of anyone: If (your name) hears My voice.
You Respond
And opens the door. If someone knocked at the front door of your home and you wanted them to come in, you would do two things. One, you would open the door. Two, you would ask them to come in. You can open the door of your life to Christ right now by asking Him to come in. He is waiting on your invitation.
Jesus Comes In
I will come in. Upon your invitation, Jesus will come into your heart – literally and actually by means of the Holy Spirit, who is Jesus Himself. How can you be certain that Jesus will take up residence in your life? Because of His promise to do so. Jesus always keeps His promises. He would never mislead you.
Question 1
Is Jesus seeking entrance to your life right now, that is, do you have an inner
awareness that Jesus wants to come in?
Question 2
Can you think of any reason why you should not invite Him in right now?
The Prayer
Lord Jesus, I need You. There have been times that I have chosen my own way. There have been times that I have tried to do the right thing but failed. I know I am a sinner, and that my sin has resulted in separation from You. I now hear you knocking at my heart’s door. I know that You seek entrance to my life. I accept the sacrifice You made on my behalf; forgive me of my trespasses and sin. Come into my heart, and make me the kind of person You want me to be.
